Acoustic Compression Therapy
in Spring Lake

Stubborn shoulder pain. Heel pain that won’t quit. Knee issues that keep coming back. If stretching, rest, and medications aren’t cutting it anymore, Acoustic Compression Therapy (ACT) might be exactly what you need.

At Well Adjusted Chiropractic, Dr. Michael Weiss uses this cutting-edge sound-wave technology to reach deep into irritated soft tissue and help your body heal from the inside out. It’s gentle, noninvasive, and works with your body’s natural healing process—not against it.

How Does ACT (Shockwave) Work?

ACT uses focused sound waves, far more concentrated than those used in ultrasound, to penetrate deep into muscles, ligaments, and even bone, up to 6 cm. below the surface, right where problem tissue hides. For healthy spots, you’ll hardly feel a thing; but where scar tissue or old injuries lurk, you’ll feel that classic “hurts so good” sensation, just like an intense massage on a tight muscle.

The session breaks up stubborn scar tissue your body developed when an injury heals improperly, increases blood flow, and prompts your system to rebuild stronger, healthier tissue, so healing can finally happen.

How Acoustic Compression Therapy Works

During an ACT session, we use a handheld device to deliver focused acoustic pulses directly into the problem area. When we treat old injuries or overused tissue, you’ll feel a mild to moderate ache—kind of like that “hurt so good” feeling you get during a deep tissue massage. That sensation actually helps us pinpoint exactly where the real problem is hiding.

These sound waves help break down dense, unhealthy scar tissue so your body can clear it away and replace it with stronger, more flexible tissue. Over time, this means less pain and better function.

What Can ACT Help With?

Acoustic Compression Therapy is especially effective for stubborn soft-tissue and overuse issues, including:

  • Chronic shoulder pain that limits your movement
  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Persistent knee, hip, or low back pain
  • Hand, wrist, or elbow tendonitis (including tennis elbow)
  • Tension-related headaches

What Your Visits Will Look Like

Most people come in once a week for about six sessions, with each visit taking around 20 minutes. We’ll adjust the intensity to keep you comfortable throughout the treatment.

Between sessions, we’ll ask you to stay well-hydrated and avoid anti-inflammatory medications (they can actually interfere with your body’s healing response). ACT isn’t appropriate during pregnancy, over pacemakers, or with known cancer. If you’re on blood thinners, we’ll evaluate your situation carefully before starting.

When it makes sense, we may combine ACT with chiropractic adjustments for even better results.

Does it hurt?

You may feel brief, mild to moderate discomfort over damaged tissue—that “hurt so good” sensation. It’s totally normal and actually means we’re targeting the right spot.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people do well with one session per week for about six weeks, though Dr. Weiss will customize this based on how you’re responding.

Is it covered by insurance?

No, ACT is a cash-based service. We’ll explain all fees upfront before you start care—no surprises.
